Stored on your device

Your filters, saved stories, read history, alerts, calculator inputs and display settings are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and you can clear them at any time from your browser settings.

Anonymous usage analytics

To improve the product we measure usage with our own first-party analytics (no third-party analytics scripts). We record:

• a random anonymous visitor ID (stored in local storage) and a session ID that resets after 30 minutes of inactivity;
• page views and interactions such as opening a story, clicking through to a publisher, searches, filters, alerts created, shares and theme changes;
• coarse device information: device type, browser and operating system family, language, time zone, and the domain you came from;
• your country, derived from your network request by our hosting provider.

We do not store IP addresses in analytics, do not use advertising cookies, and do not build profiles that identify you. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, analytics are disabled entirely. Detailed event logs are deleted after 3 days. Records that pair a random anonymous ID with a date (used only to count sessions and tell new from returning visitors) are deleted within 90 days. Anything kept longer consists of aggregate counts only.

Advertising

The site may show clearly labelled sponsored content. We count impressions and clicks on these placements in aggregate; advertisers do not receive information that identifies you. Sponsored links use rel="sponsored" and open on the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.

Third parties

Headlines link to the original publishers. Opening an article takes you to that site. Some article images are loaded from the publisher's servers, and embedded market widgets (such as the chart and detailed calendar) are provided by third parties that may set their own cookies. We load site icons through our own server so your browser does not contact third parties for them.

Security and retention

Network requests are used transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention and are not written to our analytics database.
